Population Health and Equity Research Institute (PHERI)

A Note from the Director

The MetroHealth Population Health and Equity Research Institute (PHERI) is comprised of three research centers and supported by a Biostatistics and Data Sciences Division:

Together, our 3 centers in partnership with our over 50 collaborative faculty and over 70 community partners from across the region developed the following shared vision: The Population Health and Equity Research Institute will be trusted and renowned for innovation and discovery that foster thriving, healthy equitable communities. Our collective efforts will establish powerful new models of how to improve the health of different communities in the region, statewide, and nationally.

The three Centers within the Population Health and Equity Research Institute have had great success in 2024 with over 160 publications and 37 active grants totaling over $50 million dollars (increased from 27 grants and $17 million in 2020), with 8 new grants in 2024. We mentored over 90 trainees in 2024. We also held a Community Research Dissemination Day with 60+ attendees in 2024 at the Greater Cleveland LGBT Community Center (see our 2024 annual report for more details). Our outstanding research programs led by nationally renowned investigators are further described on each of the Center’s websites.

I look forward to continuing to partner with faculty from all 3 centers along with existing and new collaborating faculty and community partners as we expand our nationally recognized success in education, innovation and discovery in population health, and continue our efforts to improve the health and equity of the communities we serve.

Sincerely,

Shari Bolen MD, MPH
