A Note from the Co-Directors
Dear Colleagues,
On September 1, 2026, we became the Co-Directors of the Center for Health Care Research and Policy (CHRP) at The MetroHealth System. This is one of three centers comprising MetroHealth's new Population Health Research Institute. We are especially thankful to Randall Cebul, MD, who established, developed, and led the Case Western Reserve University Center for Health Care Research and Policy at The MetroHealth System into its nationally recognized role today, and to Shari Bolen, MD, MPH, who served as Director of the Center for Health Care Research and Policy over the last few years.
The Center for Health Care Research and Policy's mission is to:
- Improve the health of the public by conducting research that improves access to health care, increases the quality and value of health care services, and informs health policy and practice; and
- Lead education and training programs that promote these goals.
Our core faculty led or co-led over 30 active grants in 2025 totaling around $40 million and mentored over 60 trainees in 2025.
We are a multidisciplinary, interprofessional team comprising clinician-researchers, doctoral-level methodologists, informaticists, and research staff with advanced degrees. Examples of key focus areas include disease prevention, health and wellness promotion, behavior change, and human factors. Additionally, our work emphasizes the advanced utilization of electronic health records (EHRs) for patient care, the application of artificial intelligence, mixed methods, and statistical modeling in healthcare research and delivery, and the advancement of health professional education. We look forward to continuing to partner with faculty and other stakeholders to meet our mission as part of the MetroHealth Population Health Research Institute.
