SUMMARY

Sonal Patil, MD, MSPH is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at MetroHealth and Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Patil earned her medical degree from North Maharashtra University and was an OB/GYN resident at a public hospital in India before completing her residency at the Emory Family Medicine Residency program. After residency, Dr. Patil was a full-time primary care physician at Kaiser Permanente and East Boston Neighborhood Health Center which prompted her interest in interventions to fill health service gaps and reduce health disparities. Dr. Patil completed post-graduate training in Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR), then offered by Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship with MSPH at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Patil was selected as the NIMHD Health Disparities Research Institute scholar in 2019. Before moving to Cleveland, Dr. Patil was Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri, and in 2021 completed her KL2 career development award through Washington University ICTS KL2 Career Development Awards Program.

Dr. Patil has methods skills in conducting systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and self-management interventions focused on improving cardiovascular health behaviors. Dr. Patil studies effects of lay health coaches on youth and adult cardiovascular health behaviors; support for self-monitoring to improve self-efficacy; and addressing factors that affect outcomes of clinic-based care. Dr. Patil’s work on home blood pressure monitoring to improve hypertension control was funded by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and is included to be in the Primary Care Collaborative's "Two Dozen Curated Articles to Shape Primary Care Policy and Practice" (https://www.pcpcc.org/the-list). Dr. Patil has worked on several inter-institutional and interdisciplinary collaborative projects as well as collaborated with local public high schools.
