- Kristen A. Berg, PhD, CRC
Assistant Professor
Dr. Kristen Berg joined The MetroHealth System at Case Western Reserve University in 2017 as a graduate research associate in the Patient-Centered Media Lab and joined the Center for Health Care Research and Policy in 2019 as a postdoctoral scholar. She is an affiliate of CWRU’s Center on Trauma and Adversity. Trained as a rehabilitation counselor for individuals with disability and chronic illness, her overarching research examines the ways in which marginalized populations are forced to negotiate their access and rights to healthful social and physical space.
Her predoctoral training and research was supported by a NIH/NICHD F31 Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award and examined how neighborhood and family environments converge to affect adolescents’ depressive symptoms and self-efficacies. Dr. Berg continues that research in current investigations of cognitive and biological mechanisms through which young people internalize various environmental strains, and factors that promote resilience under such strain, and also examines precision in modeling social determinants of health concepts.
She employs a variety of qualitative methods and advanced quantitative modeling approaches to studying neighborhood social determinants of individual and family health across the life course.
