- Working in Correctional Medicine
At the Cuyahoga County Correctional Center, MetroHealth caregivers use the term ‘patient’ instead of “inmate.” Caring for the underserved and the most fragile members of our community has always been central to MetroHealth’s mission.
Many of the patients grapple with chronic conditions previously undiagnosed or addressed by medical providers, including diabetes, asthma, hypertension, substance use disorder and severe mental illness.
MetroHealth’s team at the jail includes physicians, registered nurses, physician assistants, psychiatrists, pharmacists and others – a multi-disciplinary staff backed with the might of an academic medical center. The work at the jail is a natural extension of that commitment to our community, and we welcome like-minded colleagues who share our commitment.
You can also earn certification from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The Cuyahoga County Corrections Center has received accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health, the highest standard in the field.
