- Hormone Therapy for Transgender Patients
Hormone therapy is a treatment process for people seeking to physically change their bodies to fit their sense of gender identity. There are two types of hormone therapy: feminizing hormones (estrogen) and masculinizing hormones (testosterone).
Receiving hormone therapy is one of many ways a transgender person can transition, and can be part of a pre-surgical plan or be a singular process. There are benefits of hormone therapy, which include improved quality of life and reduced distress about your physical appearance.
Your Pride Network provider will help you assess the right time to begin hormone therapy based on your medical history, physical exam, and transition plan.
Many of our patients are nervous about making that first transgender care appointment, and often don't know what to expect. Think of a first appointment as a "getting to know you" visit. Here are some things to keep in mind:
A few things need to happen before any kind of treatment begins, including care with hormones. These things don't have to happen at the first appointment. We will wait until you're ready.
