Renowned Shoulder and Elbow Experts

When shoulder or elbow pain keeps you from doing the things you want and need to do, you want answers—and relief.

At The MetroHealth System, you can count on renowned shoulder and elbow experts to diagnose your condition and recommend the best treatment for you. We’re committed to restoring your ability to move your shoulder or elbow freely and with less pain.

Our shoulder and elbow specialists are a key reason to choose MetroHealth. Our team brings extensive experience, along with specialized training in shoulder and elbow care. They excel in diagnosing and treating shoulder and elbow issues, such as:

  • Arthritis of the shoulder and elbow.
  • Bicep tendinitis.
  • Dislocations and separations.
  • Fractures of the shoulder, arm and elbow.
  • Labral, ligament and tendon tears.
  • Nerve compression (pinched nerve) and pain syndromes affecting the shoulder or elbow.
  • Rotator cuff tears.
  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow.

In addition to seeing patients, our specialists take part in medical research. The studies they publish and the medical conferences they attend help advance understanding and treatments of shoulder and elbow conditions.

As a MetroHealth patient, you’ll also benefit from our collaboration with a diverse group of experts, including specialists in physical medicine, physical and occupational therapy, and neurology. This ensures that you’ll receive the right care from the right healthcare provider in the right place.

When you meet with our team, we’ll assess how shoulder or elbow pain affects your daily life and work to develop an accurate diagnosis using the advanced tools at our disposal. Next, we’ll explain your diagnosis and recommend a treatment plan that is designed with your needs and preferences in mind.

Many shoulder and elbow issues can be resolved without surgery using conservative therapies designed to relieve pain and improve mobility. Our non-surgical treatments include:

  • Anti-inflammatory medications.
  • Joint, nerve and tendon injections, which can reduce pain and inflammation. Our specially trained physicians have the skill to perform these injections accurately, with or without imaging tests to guide them.
  • Physical and occupational therapy, including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and activity modification training.
  • Office-based procedures, like Tenex.
  • Return-to-work conditioning programs.

Our orthopedic shoulder and elbow surgeons have expertise in a wide range of procedures, including:

  • Minimally invasive arthroscopy elbow or shoulder “scopes” (arthroscopy).
  • Ligament and tendon repair or reconstruction.
  • Elbow and shoulder joint replacements. We perform primary and reverse shoulder joint replacements and use a CT-guided, 3-D plan for a patient-specific elbow or shoulder implant.
  • Fracture repair.
  • Nerve decompression.

Our physical and occupational therapists work closely with your shoulder and elbow surgeon to help you in your therapy program and support your recovery. For your convenience, their care is provided at therapy locations throughout Northeast Ohio. Whether after surgery or in place of it, the rehab team takes a tailored approach to helping you regain the function of your shoulder or elbow and resume your passions.
