For most women with low-risk pregnancies, a certified nurse-midwife can provide care throughout pregnancy, delivery, and recovery after birth. After your baby is born, you can continue seeing your midwife for routine women's healthcare.
Family Medicine Doctors: Care for You and Your Baby
Many women already have a family medicine doctor they know and trust. These doctors can often provide care throughout pregnancy, deliver your baby, and care for you after birth.
Family medicine doctors can also care for your child as they grow. This means both you and your baby can receive care from the same trusted provider for years to come.
Family medicine care is often a good choice for women with low-risk pregnancies.
Obstetricians (OB-GYNs): Specialists in Pregnancy Care
Obstetricians, also called OB-GYNs, are doctors who specialize in pregnancy and women's health.
They care for women during pregnancy, delivery, and after birth. They are trained to manage both routine and more complicated pregnancies.
Because they are also experts in women's health, OB-GYNs can continue caring for you long after your pregnancy is over.

A Comfortable Place to Welcome Your Baby
When you choose MetroHealth, you can deliver your baby at the MetroHealth Birthing Center.
The Birthing Center was designed with families in mind. Private rooms, natural light, comfortable furniture, and space for overnight guests help create a welcoming environment for you and your loved ones.
Since opening in January 2023, the Birthing Center has welcomed more than 4,800 babies.
And if your baby needs specialized care, our advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is nearby. Our experienced NICU team is ready to provide expert care when it is needed most.
