Certified Nurse-Midwives are experienced medical providers with a master’s degree, clinical expertise and years of experience as registered nurses.
The word midwife traces its roots to “with woman,” and Certified Nurse-Midwives excel at making patients feel comfortable, answering questions and forming relationships with patients that encourage good health.
Certified Nurse-Midwives work collaboratively with MetroHealth obstetricians and gynecologists and maternal-fetal medicine specialists. If medical complications develop, your Certified Nurse-Midwife will connect you to the services and providers you need.

At MetroHealth, Certified Nurse-Midwives are seeing patients at Main Campus Medical Center, Parma Medical Center, Cleveland Heights Medical Center, and Brooklyn Health Center. And, choosing a Certified Nurse-Midwife for pregnancy care means you’ll deliver your baby at the new MetroHealth Birthing Center at The Glick Center.

Low-risk pregnancies
From prenatal care, to delivery and post-partum care, Certified Nurse-Midwives excel at helping parents-to-be understand their birthing options and making sure you feel heard during your pregnancy.
Well-woman care
Certified Nurse-Midwives are another option for annual well-woman exams, screenings like Pap tests and treatment of urinary tract infections and yeast infections.
Post-menopausal care
You can continue to see your trusted Certified Nurse-Midwife throughout your life for routine care. If you need more advanced care, your midwife will connect you to advanced gynecology specialists as needed.

Meet our new Director of Midwifery
Amy Lowell, CNM, APRN is Director of Midwifery at MetroHealth, bringing with her 29 years of clinical experience as a Certified Nurse-Midwife. While she offers a full spectrum of women’s healthcare, including caring for pregnant patients and delivering babies, she has a passion for treating young women in their first annual visits to help set them on a path of good health.
