CBLH Design: Supporting MetroHealth with More Than Bricks and Mortar

Published on 10/13/2026

When the team members at CBLH Design look at MetroHealth, they see themselves in its mission to improve lives. Just as MetroHealth accomplishes that goal by providing healthcare to all, CBLH strives for thoughtful design.

That similarity is the reason CBLH long ago became more than a design partner to MetroHealth; it became a staunch supporter, said Scott Weaver, Principal of CBLH Design Inc.

CBLH Design principals Mike Liezert, Jeff Valus and Scott Weaver have helped shape MetroHealth facilities while championing the health system's mission through years of philanthropic support.

“MetroHealth has a demographic of patients who may not have the means, but they are always looking out for them,” he said. “MetroHealth’s vision is so unique and so meaningful to the community, so we really want to support it.”

CBLH has brought its support to life over the past two decades by sponsoring events such as MetroHealth’s fundraising galas and golf outings. This year, CBLH became a Corporate Humanity Partner of MetroHealth, helping MetroHealth support its mission all year long.

CBLH has also championed MetroHealth's annual Resiliency Run. After supporting last year's race, the firm encouraged and backed employees who wanted to participate in this year's milestone 10th Resiliency Run, inviting team members, family and friends to take part in the event at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo while raising funds for MetroHealth trauma patients.

CBLH Design fielded a large team for the 10th Annual Resiliency Run, reflecting the firm's commitment to supporting MetroHealth both as a design partner and philanthropic partner.

Giving became personal for CBLH when it donated to help establish the Walter B. Jones, Jr., Scholars Endowment. They worked closely with Walter, the Senior Vice President of Transformation at MetroHealth, who passed away in 2023, on the Main Campus Transformation project.

“We collaborated with Walter for many years,” Scott said. “He was a big personality when he entered the room. He had big thoughts, but he always wanted to listen to you.”

Architecture & Advocacy

The philanthropic partnership with MetroHealth began, Scott said, with Mike Liezert, a recently retired Principal at CBLH.

“He taught me to advocate for MetroHealth and to appreciate MetroHealth not just as a client, but as a cornerstone of the community,” Scott said of Mike.

With the help of CBLH, MetroHealth continues to solidify its vital role in the community, most recently with the opening of the new Outpatient Health Center (OPHC), a $224 million, 307,000-square-foot home to nearly all outpatient health services provided on Main Campus. CBLH was a design partner on the Campus Transformation project.

In addition to being a state-of-the-art home for outpatient services, the OPHC was designed to be an aesthetically pleasing building along the West 25th Street corridor, Scott said.

“We reviewed the master plans for the Campus Transformation project and wanted to find a better way to connect the campus to the community around it,” he added. In front of the OPHC is a park with picnic tables, designed to beautify the area and give people a place to relax.

Prior to the OPHC, CBLH was a design partner in the MetroHealth Brecksville Health and Surgery Center, a community-based outpatient center that opened in 2016. It was also a partner in the vertical expansion of the Critical Care Pavilion on Main Campus.

Scott urges others to support MetroHealth in meaningful ways because “supporting MetroHealth is supporting your community. It’s very easy to see where the funding goes.”
