Dr. Caron is an Professor of Medicine at CWRU and at the CWRU Center for Health Care Research and Policy within the Population Health, Equity, and Research Institute at The MetroHealth System. Starting July 1st, 2020, she is one of the founding co-Directors of Education within the Population Health, Equity, and Research Institute focused on developing a population health research fellowship. Her primary research and educational interests involve quality improvement, primary care transformation, and workforce development.
She serves as the lead of HRSA funded training grants that train primary care providers, residents, physician assistants, PA students in medically underserved communities on improving quality of care, health care disparities, systems of care, professional development and/or mentors practice transformation. Between these HRSA-funded programs, Dr. Caron has trained over 50 participants from primary care clinics and has expanded the training beyond Ohio. She is the site PI for Northeast Ohio Medical University’s (NEOMED) Primary Care Training and Enhancement Grant and she developed the quality improvement training for the program. As Senior Practice Consultant for Better Health Partnership, she mentored and facilitated primary care practice transformation projects throughout the Northeast Ohio geographic region. Her work in this area was recognized as a best practice by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). From 2015-19, she served as a faculty member The Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement and led national distance learning on various topics in quality improvement (QI), practice transformation, and how to sustain QI efforts. This work was funded by a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) grant as part of the sustainability effort for QI from Robert Wood Johnson’s Aligning Forces for Quality. Dr. Caron co-founded The MetroHealth System’s Annual Duncan Neuhauser Quality Improvement Lecture series in 2014 which is focused in fostering a culture of quality by providing residents and junior faculty with opportunities to share their QI work with internationally recognized experts. She has co-chaired the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Central Region’s committee on Quality Improvement since 2010 and served as the National Chair for the Committee on Graduate Medical Education from 2015-2018.
