About Me

Joined MetroHealth: 1991
Academic Affiliations: Professor, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was a child, and I feel incredibly lucky to live out that dream every day. After studying at Yale and earning my medical degree from Harvard, I completed my training in internal medicine, cardiology, and heart rhythm disorders at Columbia Presbyterian in New York.

I’ve been part of the MetroHealth family since 1991 and serve as a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. My specialty is cardiac electrophysiology, which means I focus on diagnosing and treating heart rhythm problems like atrial fibrillation and slow heartbeats.

What drew me to this field is how much we can help people feel better—sometimes dramatically so. Heart rhythm issues are like puzzles, and when we solve them, the impact on someone’s life can be profound. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing a patient say, “I feel like myself again” after getting a pacemaker.

One of the things I love most about cardiology is the long-term relationships I build with my patients. I’ve cared for some individuals and their families for over 30 years, and it’s an honor to be part of their journey.

My research has focused on assessment of risk for sudden cardiac death in patients with structural heart disease and in those with genetic heart rhythm disorders such as long QT syndrome. In addition, I have had a strong interest in atrial fibrillation that is detected by a pacemaker, and in reducing risk of stroke. Some of my papers are listed below.
