MetroHealth’s board-certified Endoscopic Surgeons and Gastroenterologists use the EndoFLIP (endoscopic functional luminal imaging probe) to treat and diagnose gastrointestinal diseases.
MetroHealth is the only location in Northeast Ohio to offer EndoFLIP capabilities.
The EndoFLIP offers many advantages to MetroHealth patients, including:
Kevin El-Hayek, MD, and Ronnie Fass, MD, use EndoFLIP for treatment and diagnosis. It is an additional way MetroHealth’s surgeons can diagnose challenging conditions and ensure surgery is appropriate.
Dr. Fass, a world expert in swallowing disorders, uses the EndoFLIP after he performs an upper GI work up to measure pressure inside the esophagus and lower sphincter and to see if the function of the esophagus is normal or abnormal.
MetroHealth surgeons also use the EndoFLIP during Mucosal Impedance Procedures to measure the strength of the esophageal lining. It can diagnose esophageal reflux disease, Barret’s esophagus, and eosinophilic esophagitis in about 10 minutes instead of up to 96 hours for some tests.
Dr. El-Hayek uses the EndoFLIP during POEM and POP procedures and during anti-reflux operations. This ensures that he performs adequate muscle division for achalasia, Zenker’s diverticulum and gastroparesis. It also allows him to tailor anti-reflux wraps in real-time.
