How you can help

Volunteer Stories

I began volunteering at MetroHealth to see if the medical field was the right career path for me and now, I know it is. I get the chance to make patients, and their families feel like they have someone in their corner and that is something I must pursue.

I love volunteering because I feel that I am a valued part of the Metro Health community. I feel wanted and appreciated not only by the volunteer office, but by staff and patients as well.

When people are around Denver, they tend to feel cheerful and relaxed. Having a therapy dog around is like an effective drug, but without any side effects. The visits from the dogs of Loving Paws volunteers, really does help people.

I am retired, and this is my opportunity to give back to the community. I'm especially drawn to kids and families that need extra help. I'm just drawn to kids. I love the NICU because every child can use a little cuddling or a hug.

It keeps me connected to my favorite hospital. After being a nurse for 30 years, I missed the patients. Each week that I spend time here I learn something new from them--the organic farmer in Vermillion, the woman in several book clubs, the man who is training to be the new minister at his church. You get the idea. I feel I get back more than I give. And I am so grateful for Volunteer Services to give me this opportunity during my retirement.
