About Me
Dr. Piktel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine. His research focuses on implementation of novel therapies in order to improve resuscitation outcomes by understanding the complex derangements during myocardial and neurological ischemia and resuscitation from cardiac arrest. His works have provided insights into designing a novel readily translatable model of resuscitation with the capability of determining not only arrhythmia mechanisms during resuscitation from cardiac arrest, but long-term neurologic outcomes. Dr. Piktel is a member of the Research Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians and is currently Co-Chair of the Research Forum at the ACEP Scientific Assembly. He is continuing his pursuit of novel improvement in resuscitation therapies in the prehospital setting, and using informatics as a tool to identify patients at risk for adverse outcomes from the emergency department. At MetroHealth-CWRU he is closely involved in the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Committee, responsible for clinical improvement of in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
