About Me

Joined MetroHealth: 2017
Title(s): Director of Center for Sleep Medicine
Academic Affiliations: Assistant Professor, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

I’m a board-certified neurologist specializing in sleep medicine. I’ve been with MetroHealth since 2017 and currently serve as the Medical Director of our Center for Sleep Medicine. My passion is helping people better understand and manage sleep-wake disorders—because quality sleep is essential to overall health and well-being.

I studied neuroscience at Johns Hopkins, earned my medical degree from Stanford, and completed my residency and fellowship in neurology and sleep medicine at the University of Washington. I’m also an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where I help train the next generation of physicians.

Whether you're dealing with insomnia, sleep apnea, or another sleep-related condition, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you rest easier and live better. I’m committed to removing barriers and advancing treatment options so every patient can get the sleep they deserve.

Dr. Carter has served as principal investigator on a number of clinical trials focusing on treatments for sleep disorders. Most recently, these include medications to treat narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) and devices to treat obstructive sleep apnea.
