About Me
I’m a sports medicine physician at MetroHealth. I help people of all ages and activity levels recover from injuries and get back to doing what they love—whether that’s competing at a high level or simply staying active without pain. My approach focuses on personalized, non-surgical treatments that support healing and performance.
I specialize in diagnostic and interventional sports ultrasound, which allows me to see injuries in real time and guide advanced procedures like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, viscosupplementation, and minimally invasive tendon treatments—all right in the clinic. These techniques can reduce pain, speed recovery, and often help patients avoid surgery.
Outside of patient care, I’m actively involved in national sports medicine education and leadership. I work with organizations like the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to improve care and training across the country.
As a former Division I track athlete at the University of Notre Dame and a lifelong runner, I understand firsthand the challenges athletes face. I’m here to help you move better, feel stronger, and reach your goals—whatever they may be.
Dr. Allison Schroeder’s research focuses on improving the care, safety, and performance of athletes. Her work explores innovative, non-surgical treatments for joint, tendon, and muscle injuries, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, hyaluronic acid injections, and shockwave therapy. She also studies how ultrasound can be used to better diagnose injuries and guide procedures, helping patients recover more quickly and effectively.
In addition to advancing treatment options, Dr. Schroeder is committed to athlete health and well-being. She has studied overuse injuries in youth and high school athletes, bone health in runners, and female athlete health, as well as ways to improve mental health screening for collegiate athletes. She received a grant through the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Foundation to examine Division I athletes’ preferences for medical providers based on gender, race, and ethnicity, helping ensure athletes feel supported and understood by their care teams.
Dr. Schroeder also has a strong interest in medical education research. She has designed and studied ultrasound training programs for medical students, residents, and athletic trainers, working to improve how future sports medicine providers learn key skills.
Through her research, Dr. Schroeder aims to develop evidence-based, patient-centered strategies that make sports medicine care safer, more effective, and more inclusive for athletes at all levels.
