The MetroHealth Office of Media Relations is on-site 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays to assist with media requests.

Patient Condition Updates

A patient's first and last name are required to request a patient condition update. If the patient is a minor, parent or guardian consent is needed for release of a condition. Patients and/or their families reserve the right to decline the release of conditions.

Please contact:

Federal regulations contained in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) restrict the amount of information that can be released about a patient to a single, one-word condition. The conditions are:

  • Good: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
  • Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
  • Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
  • Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

After Hours Requests

  • If you need a patient condition, please call 216-778-7800 and ask for the Nursing Supervisor to be paged.
  • For additional media assistance, please call 216-778-7800 and ask for the on-call Media Communications team member to be contacted.
