Revving Up Hope for Burn Survivors: The 31st Annual American Cruisers’ Auto Show for MetroHealth’s Burn Care Center
Published on 06/09/2025
On Sunday, May 18, the General Motors Parma Plant parking lot roared to life as the American Cruisers’ 31st Annual Auto Show for MetroHealth’s Burn Care Center rolled into town. Presented by the American Cruisers, in partnership with UAW Local 1005 and the GM Plant, the car show drew hundreds of classic cars, motorcycles and passionate supporters — all rallying for a meaningful cause.
The annual event raises vital funds for MetroHealth’s Burn Care Center, one of only two verified burn care facilities for both adults and children in Ohio. These funds directly support the care of over 1,700 burn patients annually, providing acute treatment, outpatient services and long-term rehabilitation.
A deeply moving moment came when the Parma Professional Fire Fighters presented a surprise donation of $2,055 in memory of John “Jack" Craig, a beloved 31-year veteran of the Parma Fire Department and avid car enthusiast. Jack played a key role in last year’s show, helping his friend and colleague Lt. Elliot Rodriguez recruit 24 cars in honor of the Parma Fire Department’s centennial (1924-2024).
This year, just five weeks after Jack’s passing, Lt. Rodriguez organized a heartfelt tribute. Family and friends honored Jack with a special display of around 15 cars, affectionately named “Jack Craig Lane.” The donation was made in his memory, celebrating his love for cars, country and family.
“We hope this gift will help the family move forward as it represents something that Jack loved while supporting burn survivors,” said Rodriguez.
Jack’s son, Derrick Craig, reflected on the tribute with emotion and pride. “My dad dedicated his life to service and would do anything to help others,” he said. “It brings us comfort to know that his legacy continues through this cause. He had a strong connection to the Burn Care Center from his years as a paramedic and firefighter. He loved his cars and his family very much, and he always put others before himself. He would have been proud that we are supporting this cause in his memory.”
Thanks to the dedication of all who participated, the American Cruisers’ Auto Show for MetroHealth’s Burn Care Center continues to rev up hope and drive change for burn survivors across our communities.
