MetroHealth Recognized for Glick Center Collaboration

The Glick Center buildingThe MetroHealth System received the coveted 2025 Vista Award for New Construction from ASHE, a professional membership group of the American Hospital Association (AHA). The award recognizes professionals at the forefront of healthcare design and construction innovation.

With The Glick Center, MetroHealth, Turner Construction Company and architect HGA collaborated to develop a facility that could adapt over time as the healthcare industry evolves. ASHE also recognized other aspects of the project, including the hospital's design elements that reflect the local community as well as MetroHealth's support of the Latino Construction Program, which prepares residents for careers in the trades. Many of the program's graduates worked on the construction of the new hospital.

The Glick Center is named in honor of JoAnn and Bob Glick, whose $42 million donation in 2020 is the largest gift in MetroHealth's 188-year history.

"The Glick Center has provided our employees with an environment that is deserving of their talents," said MetroHealth President and CEO Christine Alexander-Rager, MD. "Our clinicians, caregivers and employees have always been exceptional. Today, they serve our community in a facility that matches their expertise – and that is because of the tireless efforts of our partners at Turner, HGA and so many others who helped make it a reality."

Leading MetroHealth through the design, construction and opening of The Glick Center was Walter Jones, AIA. Jones joined MetroHealth in 2014 as Senior Vice President of Campus Transformation and oversaw the entirety of MetroHealth's Campus Transformation until his death in late 2023. The Glick Center stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership and commitment to excellence.

The Glick Center anchors MetroHealth's ongoing Campus Transformation in Cleveland's Clark-Fulton neighborhood – the next phase of which includes the opening of a new, 300,000-square foot Outpatient Health Center in 2026. With the award, ASHE commended MetroHealth for delivering a state-of-the-art facility that modernizes care and uplifts the surrounding community.

Crews broke ground on the Outpatient Health Center while The Glick Center was still under construction. After significant input from front-line caregivers, MetroHealth pivoted on the project and all administrative space planned for the building was converted to patient-care areas to meet the growing demand for the health system's services.
