On June 6, more than 1,250 members of the MetroHealth family gathered at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for a powerful milestone moment: the 10th Annual Resiliency Run. Survivors, caregivers, community partners and supporters came together in record numbers, making this year’s event the most successful in its history.

The Resiliency Run continues to grow as a meaningful tradition rooted in hope, healing and community. Together, partners and participants helped raise approximately $100,000 in support of MetroHealth’s Burn and Trauma Care Center survivor programming, ensuring patients and families have access to critical resources long after they leave the hospital.

For a decade, the Resiliency Run has celebrated the courage and determination of those who have experienced traumatic injury and the caregivers and advocates who support them every step of the way. This year’s award recipients brought those stories to life in unforgettable ways.

Survivor Award: Bruce Matthias
A veteran and longtime mailman, Bruce’s life changed in an instant when he was struck from behind in his vehicle, leaving him with incomplete paraplegia. Through determination and resilience, he has relearned how to drive and now referees basketball games. His walk to the stage on crutches to accept his award was a moving reminder of what perseverance looks like in action.

Caregiver Award: Andrew Neading, Burn Program Manager
A driving force behind the Resiliency Run, Andrew’s leadership and passion have helped shape the event into what it is today. His commitment to patients and their long-term recovery reflects the heart of MetroHealth’s mission.

Community Hero Award: Giles Foster
Giles demonstrated extraordinary courage by using MetroHealth’s Stop the Bleed training to save the lives of two individuals injured in a shooting outside his workplace. His quick thinking underscores the life-saving power of community education and preparedness.
