Internship FAQs

When does the internship start?

The internship starts at the beginning of June. Once interns are selected and accept their position, they will be contacted by HR to attend June orientation.

Who is eligible to apply?

Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program are eligible to apply. These internship opportunities are non-clinical.

I am not currently enrolled in a degree program. Can I still apply for an internship?

Candidates may apply for an internship if they submit their application to the internship position vacancy within six months of completion of their last qualification.

What is included in onboarding?

Onboarding includes a background check, nicotine drug screen, verification of required vaccinations, I-9, and direct deposit submission. A pre-employment appointment will be scheduled up to 2 weeks prior to your start date. Please review our Onboarding and Pre-Employment Requirements page for full detail.

Are interns required to have the COVID-19 vaccination?

Yes. MetroHealth policy requires all workforce members to be fully vaccinated. Currently, fully vaccinated means receipt of all immunization doses.

Is housing provided?

Aside from having a paid internship, MetroHealth does not formally arrange for housing for summer interns. As such, it is the responsibility of the interns to set up their housing arrangements upon accepting an internship position.

What is the time commitment for the internship?

All internships are full time (40 hours/week, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), unless an exception is made.

Interns will work with their preceptor to determine a mutually agreeable schedule. Internships can be remote and/or onsite depending on agreement with internship preceptor.

How are students selected and placed in a department?

Students will be placed depending on the department need for an intern and the intern’s specified interests. Please note the requested objectives section on the submitted resume to include internship goals and hospital departments of interest. For a list of potential hospital departments, see Internship Projects and Departments descriptions.

Can I apply for more than one internship?

Yes! Please list as many hospital departments of interest on your submitted resume in the objectives section. Multiple application submissions are not required.

When will I hear back?

Applicants will be contacted between March and April for interview requests.

Please visit our Application Process page to learn more details about the timeline for the selection process.

I have more questions about the application and interview process. Who should I contact?

Please email [email protected] with any questions during the application process. Applicants invited for the interview process will be contacted by a MetroHealth recruiter that will guide them through the interviewing and onboarding process.

Is transportation provided?

MetroHealth does not provide individual transportation for interns. However, bus passes will be provided by request.
