Research

Dr. Han has studied intestinal epithelial and stem cell pathophysiology during gastro-intestinal diseases over a decade. Dr. Han lab research is mainly focused on studying how aberrant cytokine signaling regulates stem cell malignancy. Using murine and patient adult stem cell-, and induced pluripotent stem cell-derived organoid models, his lab's recent finding demonstrates that constitutively activated cytokine-STAT5 signaling can promote gut cancer stem cell migration to distant organs. Dr. Han's research interests include but not limited to:

  1. Regulation of intestinal stem cell response to gut infection, inflammation and tumorigenesis.
  2. Mechanisms of cancer stem cell metastasis under somatic mutations during colorectal cancer.
  3. Development of potential treatments for impairing cancer stem cell metastasis.
