Gastroenterology Research Trials
The gastroenterology team at MetroHealth is devoted to ongoing research. Our clinicians know that the research we do benefits patients both now and in the future. As a result, we have many research trials underway at any given time.
Correlation Between Elevated Fat Mass and Prevalence of GERD Symptoms
Study Aim: To correlate the prevalence of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) symptoms and the level of esophageal mucosal injury with increased fat-free mass assessed by bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA), body mass index (BMI) and anthropometry.
To be included in this study, patients must:
- Be between ages 18 and 75
- Have BMI scores from 18 to 60
- Experience GERD symptoms at least twice weekly for the past three months while on PPI
- Be undergoing clinically indicated EGD (upper endoscopy)
Ironwood: A Phase 2a Study to Evaluate the Effect of IW-3718 Administered Orally for Four Weeks in Patients with GERD Not Completely Responsive to Proton Pump Inhibitors
Study Aim: To test the safety and effectiveness of the study drug IW-3718 (same active ingredient of Whelcol) in subjects with GERD who still have symptoms even while treated with once-daily PPIs.
To be included in this study, patients must:
- Be age 18 to 65
