Patient Navigator Program

Cancer treatment isn't easy. Whether you're undergoing chemotherapyradiation or cancer surgery, dealing with your treatment can often seem like a full-time job. Add the regular demands of everyday life on top of it, and you might feel overwhelmed. But it doesn't have to be that way.

At MetroHealth, we believe that patients and their families shouldn't have to fight the complexities of cancer alone.

To make an appointment with a cancer navigator, call 216-778-8204.

Our Patient Navigator Program is designed to help you and your family understand your treatment plan. And we can give you access to resources you need as you fight back against cancer.

Understanding the Navigator Role

A patient navigator isn't a doctor. This isn't someone you'll visit to get a medical treatment for cancer. But your navigator can be a key part of your treatment team. This person will work closely with your oncology team to understand your cancer treatment plan. And this person can help you deal with the complexities of that plan.

Your navigator can also help you manage your life with cancer—including tasks that have nothing at all to do with cancer and everything to do with improving your quality of life.

Your navigator will work closely with you, your family, your oncology team and social workers to map out a treatment plan that works for you. We'll be there for you and with you. The less you have to worry about, the more you can focus on your health—and working toward becoming a cancer survivor.

Cancer Care Solutions from Your Navigator

Every person's cancer, and cancer recovery, is a little different. Not surprisingly, that means every navigator might offer different things to different families. Here are a few examples of how we can help.

If you're having trouble managing your finances because you aren't able to work during treatment, we can connect you with resources that can help.

If getting to MetroHealth is difficult, we can arrange for transportation so that you don't miss important appointments.

And if you're having a hard time keeping track of your appointments, we can set up reminder calls so that you never miss a visit.

Our patient navigators can also put you in touch with other resources that could help you deal with cancer or cancer treatment side effects. Your navigator might connect you with:

  • Specialized nursing care
  • Nutritionists
  • Chemotherapy education resources
  • Alternative healing techniques, such as Reiki

Pastoral Care

And if you need emotional support, we can help there too. Your navigator is always willing to listen to you and comfort you when times are tough. And your navigator can connect you with a cancer support group at MetroHealth, as well as other cancer support groups in the community. We can even connect you with support groups just for caregivers. If you'd like to talk to a social worker one on one, your navigator can arrange that.

Guidance for Everyone

When it comes to fighting cancer, we believe that every person deserves a helping hand. Our experienced, compassionate navigators are here to assist MetroHealth patients with all types of cancer. And our services are always free to you, even if you don't have insurance.
