Dr. Joseph Hanna Featured In Plain Dealer, Channels 3 And 5

Friday, August 15, 2014 - Dr. Joseph Hanna Featured In Plain Dealer, Channels 3 And 5
Dr. Joseph Hanna, Chair of Neurology at MetroHealth, helped explain to a world community shocked by Robin Williams' death that there is nothing surprising about the link between Parkinson's and depression.

As Dr. Hanna told WEWS NewsChannel 5, approximately 50 percent of Parkinson's patients will experience severe depression, due both to a loss of dopamine and other important chemicals (creating "an internal depression") and the external depression created by not being able to do the things one is used to doing.

As he told WKYC Channel 3, if you notice someone with Parkinson's exhibiting signs of depression, including lack of interest in things he or she used to be interested in, you should seek medical help immediately.

Have questions about Parkinson's disease? This Cleveland.com article featuring Dr. Hanna might answer those questions.
