MetroHealth Hosts Drug Take Back Day Event
MetroHealth will host its first ever Drug Take Back Event on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
The event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Drug National Take Back Initiative, in which thousands of sites will collect "potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs."
Prescription drug abuse is a serious problem in the Greater Cleveland area and can lead to other addictions, including the heroin epidemic that has engulfed Cuyahoga County. Studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs come from family and friends, often from the medicine cabinet.
MetroHealth will offer an opportunity to safely dispose of pills and patches, anonymously with no questions asked, at its Sackett Lot on Saturday.
Last October, Americans turned in over 647,000 pounds of prescription drugs, creating a total of more than 3.4 million pounds at DEA Drug Take Back events.
