MetroHealth Physician Receives American Red Cross People’s Choice Award

Friday, December 06, 2013 - MetroHealth Physician Receives American Red Cross People’s Choice Award
(Cleveland) – MetroHealth physician Thomas Collins, MD, FACEP, Director, Emergency Services, and President, Medical Staff at The MetroHealth System received the People’s Choice Award at the American Red Cross of Northeast Ohio’s 2013 Hero Award event Thursday.

Eleven people were honored with Hero Awards in early November by the American Red Cross. Community members then participated in an online, public vote, choosing one individual to be further recognized with the People’s Choice Award at the December 5 luncheon at the Renaissance Hotel.

“In my life, I find that I am truly blessed, being surrounded by heroes at MetroHealth (nurses, docs, social workers, therapists, support staff, pilots and flight crews, and admin team), my great EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and police in the City of Cleveland, our local Tactical Medics, and my incredible family,” said Dr. Collins. “Winning the People’s Choice Award is truly an honor.”

The Hero Awards are a Red Cross tradition, honoring individuals who have shown extraordinary courage, compassion and humanity by saving or improving lives.
Dr. Collins was selected for his unwavering dedication to the community through his practice and leadership in emergency medicine. He is an Emergency Department physician, a MetroHealth Emergency Flight Physician and an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Collins provides medical oversight to the City of Cleveland as Medical Director for the Department of Public Safety. In all his capacities, he is connected to or accountable for the care of nearly a quarter of a million patients annually.
