OBJECTIVE: To provide a one month internship experience in Neonatology with emphasis on the diagnosis and management of preterm and term infants with diseases requiring management in the NICU. Delivery room resuscitation experience will also be integral to this rotation.
OFFERED: All months except July
STUDENTS: Maximum 2 students per month – 1 preferred
REQUIRED: Completion of all basic clerkships
DESCRIPTION: The student will function as an intern member of the resident team and will thus be responsible for assigned patients, attend conferences, and participate in night/weekend call. He/she will report to the Neonatology fellow and the Attending Neonatologist on service. The student will work up patients, write orders, perform procedures, write progress reports, and communicate with families in the same manner as residents. Student orders will be co-signed by the fellow. He/she will present assigned patients on rounds and if called upon present patients at various Neonatology conferences.
DUTIES: Duties of an intern on this service as outlined above including night/weekend call.
