OBJECTIVE: Develop an understanding of vascular anatomy and acquire a general knowledge of the contemporary practice of vascular/interventional radiology and its role in patient care.
OFFERED: September - November & January - June
The elective begins on the 1st weekday of the month and will end on the last weekday of the month.
STUDENTS: Offered to 4th Year Medical Students
Maximum of 1 student per month
DESCRIPTION: The student will be assigned to vascular/interventional staff throughout the elective and will assist in a representative sample of interventions. He/she will assist in the planning and conducting of the vascular interventions for both inpatients and outpatients which includes special procedures, rounds, film viewing and interpretation of radiologic anatomy. They will also observe the placement of central and peripheral intravenous lines, which will be valuable in future training.
REQUIREMENTS: Weekday attendance, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Attendance at daily radiology conferences and resident lectures, and the student will prepare two teaching file cases to be presented to staff at the conclusion of the elective.
