Day of Admission

We want to make your admission to the hospital as easy as possible. We will make every attempt to make most of the arrangements for you before you arrive. The admission procedure will only take a few minutes. When you come to the hospital, you should go the Admitting Area on the main floor of the Inpatient Towers. A representative of the Admitting Area will verify your information with you, and you will be escorted to your room.

If you are having surgery on the day of your admission, you will report to the Surgery Waiting Area (directions will be provided).

You will only need to bring a few items with you, such as a bathrobe, nightclothes, slippers, and toilet articles. You may wish to bring a book or magazine. Electric appliances, such as hair dryers, shavers, and curling irons, are permitted only if they are cordless.

Your Health Care Team

You will meet a number of people at MetroHealth Medical Center who are part of your health care team. Your physician, nurse, social worker, and others will play an important role in meeting your individual needs. If you have other concerns, let us know so we can help.

Care Management and Social Work

The Department of Care Management and Social Work has nurse case managers and social workers who work as a team to assist you during your hospital stay.

The nurse case manager serves as a link between you, your family, the health care team, and payer. Additionally, the nurse case manager will arrange appropriate post-hospital care, if needed, with a rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or intermediate nursing facility and referrals for home care, medical equipment and supplies.

The social worker provides counseling for you and your family as you adjust to illness, injury, or a change in medical condition. The social worker also makes referrals to services in the community that will provide support after you are discharged from the hospital.

If you have questions, please contact the nurse case manager at 216-778-8740 or the Social Work office at 216-778-5551.

Financial Responsibilities

We will work closely with your insurance company and other payers regarding the financial coverage for your hospital stay. In some circumstances your insurance may set limits on the amount of time that you can be hospitalized for your particular illness or injury. In other situations, your insurance company may only pay a portion of your hospital bills. We will work with you and your payer so that we can meet your individual needs.

It is your responsibility to provide us with your most current insurance coverage information. This information will include, but may not be limited to, the name of your insurance company, where to mail claims, and the identification numbers required by your insurance company to accurately bill for services. It is also your responsibility to know what services are covered by your insurance plan. You are financially responsible for services not covered by your insurance plan even though these services may be prescribed by your doctor.

In compliance with Ohio state law, MetroHealth will provide a price list containing our charges for room and board, emergency department, operating room, delivery, physical therapy, and other procedures. This list is available in our Admitting Department. The hospital's charges are the same for all patients, but a patient's responsibility may vary, depending on payment plans negotiated with individual health insurers. Uninsured or underinsured patients should consult with our admitting and billing staff to determine whether they qualify for discounts.

MetroHealth also provides information regarding hospital charges and the Billing, Credit, Collection and The MetroHealth Plan Policy (PDF).

If you have questions regarding your bill or payment for services, please contact Patient Financial Services at 216-957-3250.
