Autopsy
In the state of grief, when a loved one passes away, it might be difficult to think about an autopsy. However, autopsy plays an essential role in advancing medical knowledge, in maintaining the physicians' competency, and in providing medical education for physicians in training.
Autopsy is an integral part of practicing medicine. For the patients and their family, an autopsy can also bring great benefits. It can answer important questions, like the immediate cause(s) of death and can detect previously unknown medical conditions that might be important to surviving family members.
Autopsies are routinely performed from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays. A preliminary autopsy report is issued the day following the autopsy. Final autopsy reports are routinely completed within 30 days.
