Nephrology (Kidney)
Education
All members of the Division of Nephrology and
Hypertension hold faculty appointments at Case School of Medicine. Members of
the Division actively participate in teaching of nephrology physiology and
pathophysiology curriculum to first and second year Case medical students. Third
and fourth year students, as well as medicine residents in the Case-affiliated
MetroHealth residency program, have the opportunity to rotate on inpatient and
outpatient Nephrology consultation services at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Members of the Division are frequent winners of medical student and house staff
teaching awards.
MetroHealth is also a component of the ACGME-accredited,
Case School of Medicine Nephrology fellowship program (website under
construction). Clinical fellowship educational experiences include rotations on
the inpatient consult service, as well as outpatient rotations at a large
dialysis facility and renal clinics. A structured curriculum includes a weekly
didactic lecture series, as well as a monthly case-based clinical conference and
journal club. Post-doctoral fellows are eligible for formal research training
through an NIH-funded training grant, which is centered at
MetroHealth.
