Nutrition Philosophy of the Dietetic Internship Program

The MetroHealth Medical Center Dietetic Internship Program is designed to provide a learning experience that prepares the Intern to respond to the versatile demands of the dietetics profession.  The program is based on the philosophy that the development of professional competency is contingent upon mastering the skills of problem solving and decision making.  In addition, the program strives to give the Intern the necessary guidance and resources for future professional growth.

It is the program’s intention to train the Dietetic Intern to become an entry-level generalist Dietitian. This is achieved, during the 48-week generalist Dietitian Internship Program, by providing the Intern a professional environment in which to learn the role of the clinical, community and food service management Dietitian.

Working with Registered Dietitians who serve as both teachers and role models allows the Intern to establish confidence as a competent practitioner of Dietetics
