Dear Residency Candidate, The Case MetroHealth Medical Center Residency is a fully accredited four-year training program for four categorical residents each PGY year and one PGY1 preliminary resident.  Education and supervision is provided by the committed faculty, all whom hold teaching positions at CWRU.  Training is provided in both low and high-risk obstetrics, benign gynecology, infertility, gynecologic oncology, and urogynecology.  Residents work closely with CWRU medical students, and are expected to develop teaching skills themselves.  MetroHealth’s dedicated faculty allows residents to profit from exposure to accomplished academicians and researchers whose expertise spans the full breadth of our specialty.  Benefits are apparent in clinical practice, research opportunities, and in expanded faculty participation in our core didactic education program.  Each resident’s training program requires completion of an original research project.  The progress of each resident’s research program is monitored by a research mentor and the Departmental Research Committee.  This individualized support will help residents stay on track throughout the duration of the project.  Because many residents will not, themselves, become independent researchers, an important emphasis of the training program is the development of critical thinking.  As a portion of the routine review of research progress, each resident will be challenged constructively to justify the relevance of the project, their choice of methods, data interpretation and overall conclusions.  Graduates of this program are qualified to practice independently as obstetricians and gynecologists.   Recent graduates have successfully obtained positions in highly selective subspecialty fellowships in Maternal Fetal Medicine, GYN Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, Family Planning, and Minimally Invasive Surgery.  Sincerely, Thomas M.
