Obstetrics and Gynecology Reproductive Endocrinology

The Assisted Reproduction Program at MetroHealth Medical Center is directed by Khalid Ataya, M.D., Professor of Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.  Dr. Ataya completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Miami in Florida in 1985.  For over 20 years he has focused his professional practice on reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) and has been a subspecialty board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist since 1987.

Dr. Ataya is nationally recognized as an expert in the field of ovarian physiology and toxicology.  He has published multiple original research papers related to eggs, embryos, ovarian and other reproductive hormones.  With his special expertise, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded him a major grant (RO1) to study ovarian follicles and eggs.  He has been awarded other grants from other national agencies and has been invited to NIH for his expert opinion related to ovarian function.

A member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, The Society of Reproductive Surgeons, Dr. Ataya is also a member of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, the Endocrine Society and The Society for Gynecologic Investigation.

Areas of special interest:  ovarian follicle, aging of human eggs, hormone interaction with immune system, endometriosis, habitual abortion and fibroid uterus.
