If a friend or family member appeared to be having a seizure, would you know how to help?

That’s the question the MetroHealth Department of Neurology asked in its 2012 Teen Brain Health Video Contest.

Local high school students were invited to submit a minute-long video to educate their peers on the causes of seizures, how to prevent them and what to do in an emergency.

Eleven teams of students from six different schools participated in the competition. All entries were featured on the MetroHealth YouTube Channel, and the winning videos were selected based on the number of likes they received. Collectively, the entries were viewed more than 2,200 times.

For the second year in a row, Lutheran West High School came in first and won a cash prize of $2,000. A team from Saint Joseph Academy was named runner-up and received a $500 prize.

In addition, videos from a team of Normandy High School students and from Cleveland Heights High School received honorable mentions as Judges’ Choice selections.

Students from Padua Franciscan and the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center also entered the contest.
