Resident Program Benefits
Residents have the luxury of having only 2-4 calls during their elective times during their PGY2 and PGY3 years.
No call will exceed 16 hours for interns.
Juniors and seniors have at least one weekend with Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday off.
Residents receive four weeks of paid vacation per year, and they do not work during public holidays unless they are on call.
The program provides nine electives during residency.
Residents have supervised autonomy in patient care with a great deal of hands-on experience.
There is substantial exposure for performing procedures (IV, lumbar punctures, central lines, intubations, etc.).
As a public hospital with a mission to serve the community, MetroHealth has a very diverse patient population.
Residents obtain a considerable amount of experience working with the Comprehensive Care Department which cares for children with special health care needs.
Moonlighting opportunities are available in the NICU.
MetroHealth uses an electronic medical records system.
The department maintains a friendly relationship with neighboring institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Rainbow Babies and Children and Akron Children's Hospital.
