Pediatric Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Care team offers diagnostic evaluation and treatment to patients with abnormalities and/or diseases of the cardiopulmonary system. The team serves patients in all areas of the hospital, in particular the emergency department, critical care areas, and rehabilitation department. As needed, respiratory therapy provides 24-hour patient care to admitted children.
The Respiratory Care team trains patients and their families in all aspects of specific disease management, including:
- Mechanical ventilation
- Tracheostomy care
- Suctioning techniques
- Aerosol delivery
The team also prepares families to care for their child after leaving the hospital. Patients, too, are taught procedures to better return to a home care setting.
