Resident Testimonials
Edward Greenberg, MD Physician Scientist Track, PGY-1 Medical School: University of Rochester
"The attendings and senior residents are patient, knowledgeable, friendly, accessible, and eager to teach. We (the interns) get enough freedom for interns to feel like we're actually managing their patients, but if we're ever uncomfortable with a decision or a procedure, the seniors and attendings are always available to help. The nursing staff is also incredible: they always notice if patients are looking unstable, and are quick to let us know with their concerns. Ancillary support (IV lines, transport services, etc) are very comprehensive, and EPIC (the electronic medical records) is one of the most powerful, well-integrated systems that I have ever worked with."
Maria Antonelli, MD Categorical Medicine, PGY-3 Medical School: University of Toledo College of Medicine
"MetroHealth is an amazing place to work. Not only does the program create a great work environment in which residents can learn from leading specialists and each other, but the residents themselves are a great group of colleagues and friends. Residents are from many different places and so have many different points of view and experiences which they share. The faculty and staff are very approachable and open to change. The patients are also very diverse and provide a wide variety of bread-and-butter problems to zebras you haven't studied in med school! I most definitely would choose MetroHealth again!"
Tuyyab Hassan, MD Categorical Medicine, PGY-3 Medical School: University of Glasgow
"MetroHealth is a great place to learn medicine and learn life-long skills. After completing training here, I feel I'll be more than ready to deal with whatever comes my way!"
Melanie Copenhaver, DO Med-Peds, PGY-1 Medical School: Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine
"I love working at MetroHealth and hanging out with my fellow interns after work at all the various restaurants around Cleveland."
Mark Mastrodicasa, MD Categorical Medicine, PGY-2 Medical School: St. George’s University
“MetroHealth is a great place to work and learn. The residency program itself strives to provide a quality learning experience while allowing us the opportunity to provide feedback and open discussion on how to make the program stronger.”
Sarah Park, MD Categorical Medicine, PGY-1 Medical School: Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine
"From inpatient to outpatient, there's a fantastic group of people that I work with on a daily basis. They've allowed me to build my strengths and work on my weaknesses while in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with. MetroHealth is an excellent institution that remains true to its values of patient care and humility and I am proud to be apart of its mission. In the case that you ever needed anything, the department is easily approachable, including the director and the chair. The combination of sound academics, patient population, and the group of people I've had the opportunity to work with make MetroHealth's program outstanding."
John Kanaan, MD Preliminary year, PGY-1 Medical School: University of South Florida
"As an intern doing a prelim year in internal medicine at MetroHealth, I couldn't be happier. I love coming to work every day, and I'm not even working in the field that I'm most passionate about. Some programs have a reputation for giving preferential treatment to categorical residents over prelims. Not at MetroHealth. Here we are treated the same and receive equal benefits in terms of nights of call and vacation requests."
Megan Frantz, MD Preliminary year, PGY-1 Medical School: Case Western Reserve University
"I wanted to do my prelim year at Metro because I knew that the teaching here would be excellent, so I would be well prepared to take care of patients wherever I go. I have not been disappointed. Also, the culture here is very supportive, which contributes to an excellent learning environment."
Ryan Boente, MD Categorical medicine, PGY-1 Medical School: University of Illinois
“In a word, I would describe my experience thus far at MetroHealth as ‘comfortable’. I am given the autonomy I desire with respect to patient care and value the senior residents and attending physicians who are readily available and approachable when in need, regardless of how simple or complex the question. Being comfortable in my work environment allows me to get the most out of my residency experience.”
Manoj Bupathi, MD Categorical medicine, PGY-3 Medical School: St. George’s University
“Independence and teaching are what makes MetroHealth an awesome place to train.”
Dan Silbiger, DO, MS Categorical medicine, PGY-2 Medical School: Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine
“MetroHealth is the ideal place for medical training. As a student, I had the opportunity to spend several months rotating here on general medicine, infectious disease, and intensive care unit services. I quickly observed firsthand the superior environment for training that is provided and continue to appreciate that during residency. I strongly believe that our attending physicians are the most approachable that I have ever met. They truly respect the ideas and plans set forth by residents and offer valuable guidance along the way. The patient population is incredibly diverse, and there is always a good case report waiting to be written based on experiences in the wards. Indeed, MetroHealth is the only level 1 trauma center and burn center in the entire Cleveland region, allowing for extraordinarily interesting cases to surface. Having grown up in Cleveland since childhood, I can confidently say that the city is easy to navigate and very affordable. The medical community is front and center in terms of media attention and economic priorities. All together, MetroHealth affords the opportunity for outstanding medical education in a very hospitable city.”
Thammi Ramanan, MD International health, PGY-1 Medical School: Michigan State University
“I am a recent graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. I graduated with the desire to work with underserved populations and further my interest in international health. I was convinced during my residency interview, that MetroHealth would be the place to achieve these goals. As I pursue my first year in the MetroHealth internal medicine program, I have been challenged and exposed to a diverse population with a variety of needs and health concerns. The dynamism among faculty and residents has instilled a strong sense of team, openness and a strong environment for learning that is quite often only found in smaller programs. As a resident in the International Health Program at MetroHealth, I am looking forward to using the knowledge I gained during my Master’s in Public Health and further my knowledge and skills in international health. MetroHealth attracts a strong group of residents who are easy to work with and great to learn from. I am certain my training at MetroHealth will immensely change the way I understand and deliver medicine in underserved communities in the near future.”
