The major diagnoses seen by the division include: pediatric asthma, chronic wheezing and cough, infant apnea and sleep studies, respiratory complications of pediatric neuromuscular diseases, BPD, congenital anomalies of the lungs and airway, pediatric sleep apnea, respiratory complications of medically fragile and neurologically complex children, home ventilators and tracheostomies, stridor and recurrent croup, and all other aspects of pediatric pulmonology. Dr. Birnkrant's research interests include respiratory complications of pediatric neuromuscular diseases, in which area Dr. Birnkrant has written articles and been involved at a national level.
