About the Genetics Clinic
Offering a Range of Services for Children and Adults
The MetroHealth Genetics Clinic offers comprehensive clinical genetic services including diagnosis, testing, management, and counseling for conditions thought to have a genetic cause for both patients and their families. Our geneticist and genetic counselors work closely with state agencies, hospitals and other organizations to make services available to as many families as possible.
Genetic evaluation and counseling may be indicated at any time throughout the life cycle, from preconception through adulthood. Individuals who might benefit from genetic evaluation and counseling could have a range of health issues or concerns, including the following:
- Birth defects and congenital malformations
- Several minor malformations
- Problems with growth
- Autism
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Developmental delays / mental retardation / intellectual disabilities
- Abnormal state newborn screening results
- Personal or family history of a genetic condition

Genetics Staff
The Genetics Clinic includes Carol Crowe, MD, a board certified pediatrician and clinical geneticist, and two board certified genetic counselors: Elizabeth Hogan, MS, and Sheila Johal, MS, CGC. The clinical genetics staff regularly provides educational sessions to students, medical professionals and the general public upon request.
