The Children's Hospital at MetroHealth Medical Center Comprehensive Care Pediatrics

The Comprehensive Care Program
The Comprehensive Care Program provides a medical home to infants, children and adults with special health care needs. The program provides primary pediatric and internal medicine care, as well as specialty care directed to patients with neurodevelopmental disabilities. The physicians work in a team with dedicated psychologists, nurses, social workers, and nutritionists. The program provides continuity of care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The team works closely with outside organizations such as the County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Delay, the Visiting Nurse Association, and the Hospice of the Western Reserve. The program collaborates with all of the medical and surgical subspecialists at MetroHealth Medical Center to coordinate the extensive care needed by our patients.

The program treats patients with the following problems:

  • Complications associated with premature birth
  • Toxic effects during fetal life
  • Chromosomal and gene disorders
  • Craniofacial disorders
  • Mental retardation, mental illness, dual diagnoses
  • Neural tube defects
  • Cerebral palsies, spasticity and associated diseases/disorders
  • Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
  • Technology dependence- ventilators, feeding tubes, etc.

The Comprehensive Care Program Specialty Clinics
Craniofacial clinic - a multidisciplinary clinic in which each patient is seen by our pediatrician in conjunction with a team of specialists from plastic surgery, ENT, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, Orthodontistry, Nutrition, Genetics, Audiology, and Speech pathology. The team makes joint recommendations for planning treatment.

Feeding and Nutrition clinic - a multidisciplinary clinic in which each patient is seen by our pediatrician in conjunction with nutrition, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social work. Medical conditions may limit the amount of food a child is able to eat, or increase the number of calories they need. Medical and social problems may interfere with proper feeding techniques and parent-infant bonding

Adult Comprehensive Care clinic - Our success in caring for children with special health care needs has brought new challenges in taking care of adults with illnesses previously seen primarily only within the realm of pediatrics. Our team now includes physicians dually certified in Pediatrics and Adult Internal Medicine, as well as a social worker from the Adult Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disability.

The Comprehensive Care Pediatrics Clinic is located in the Specialty Services Pavilion.  To schedule an appointment call 216-778-2222 .
