Safe Sleep About Safe Sleep

Sleep-related deaths are more common among infants than people may think. Each year in Cuyahoga County, about 20 babies die from unsafe sleep conditions — enough children to fill a kindergarten class.

Each of those deaths could have been prevented by following simple steps to create a safe sleep environment.

The ABCs of Safe Sleep

Your baby should sleep:

  • Alone
  • On His/Her Back
  • In a Bare Crib

Unsafe Sleep Environments

The following are not safe for your baby:

  • Cluttered cribs, beds, or other sleeping spaces
  • Sleeping with an adult or another child
  • Sleeping on a sofa, couch, or other soft surface
