MetroHealth Cares MetroHealth’s Report to Our Community

Cuyahoga County's need for high-quality affordable health care has never been greater, as the region recovers from the economic downturn. As a result, our mission has never been more vital to the health of the region.

MetroHealth charges less for services than other regional providers, giving all county residents better access to care.

MetroHealth is discovering new ways to improve the lives of everyone in Cuyahoga County.

Increasing Access to Care
The MetroHealth System has a unique role in the community. As the public hospital, MetroHealth provides comprehensive care for all Cuyahoga County residents, regardless of their ability to pay.

Only about 5% of our patient revenues come from local tax dollars.

17% of MetroHealth's charity care was covered by the $40 million subsidy that Cuyahoga County allotted to MetroHealth in 2010. The demand for charity care is expected to increase in 2011, while the county subsidy was reduced to $36 million.

Innovation
MetroHealth, as an affiliate of Case Western Reserve University, attracted $37.5 million to Cuyahoga County in 2010. Our research initiatives have led to cutting-edge treatments for patients.

MetroHealth's Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program is one of the best in the United States and its work has led to nationwide changes in obstetrical care. That means Cuyahoga County residents have access to leading-edge obstetrical care and treatments.

Education
MetroHealth is an academic health system and is committed to training medical professionals. In 2010, MetroHealth provided training to more than 1,300 medical and nursing students, residents and fellows. In addition, all of MetroHealth's active physician staff hold faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
