The Weight Loss Surgery Program
Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap-Band)

- Adjustable gastric banding is a purely restrictive operation which only limits food intake and does not interfere with the normal digestive process.
- In this procedure, a silicone band with an inflatable inner collar is placed around the upper stomach creating a small pouch and a narrow passage into the rest of the stomach.
- The band is then inflated with a saline solution through a tube that connects the band to an access port placed under the skin.
- The inner diameter of the band can be adjusted according to weight loss by injecting or removing saline through the port.
