MetroHealth's M. Michael Wolfe, MD, is internationally known for his work developing new treatments for obesity and other metabolic disorders and for acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. He patented new methods for treating episodic heartburn which were instrumental in formulating the product Pepcid Complete®.

Dr. Wolfe is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, and is Chair of the Department of Medicine at MetroHealth. He came to Cleveland from Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine.

"It's a phenomenal position,'' says Dr. Wolfe, who joined MetroHealth in the fall. "The people here are wonderful. During my interviews, I saw a place with the same mission as mine, one that knew how to get it right.''

Dr. Wolfe says it is important to "continue to build on the excellence of MetroHealth as an academic medical center and take that knowledge out to where the people live.'' MetroHealth's commitment to current as well as new satellite facilities throughout Cuyahoga County was one of the things which attracted Dr. Wolfe back to Northeast Ohio.

"Times have changed. People are busy and don't have the time to leave their jobs and homes to travel to MetroHealth's main campus and other downtown medical centers. We thus need to take our excellence out to the community and make ourselves more accessible."

Wolfe grew up in Akron, and is pleased to return to the area. He attended The Ohio State University for both his BS and MD degrees.
