Benefits
Vacation - All PM&R residents are eligible for the following on an annual (academic year*) basis:
· 15 vacation days
· 5 personal days (floating holidays and birthday holiday)
· Up to 5 education days
· 3 interview days (Applied to senior residents)
Maternity/Paternity Leave - Up to 12 weeks in accordance with the Family Medical Leave Act.
Non-Salary Funding Support Incoming residents are provided with an educational fund to be used for a PM&R-related textbooks purchase and/or a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). PG3 residents receive a stipend to be used towards educational conference travel/attendance or towards PM&R textbook purchase. PG4 residents receive a stipend to attend the AAPM&R Annual Assembly or any other PM&R related meeting.
The Department sponsors membership for each resident in the American Academy of PM&R (AAPM&R), which includes subscription to the journal PM&R. The Department also pays the fees for the Annual Self-Assessment Exams (SAE) for the AAPM&R (PG- 2 to PG-4 residents) and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM, for PG-3 and PG-4 residents). If a resident is first author on a paper/poster with a faculty member which is accepted for presentation at a national meeting (e.g., AAPM&R, AAP, ASIA), he/she will be reimbursed the registration fee plus $1,000.00 for other expenses. This is in addition to the support discussed above. This research presentation support DOES NOT apply to case reports.
Meals Meals are provided at a reduced rate in the hospital cafeteria and Towers Grill when purchased using the Cashless Card System. Meal cards are provided by the PM&R department to all on-call residents.
Case Western Reserve University Benefits The Department sponsors resident membership to CWRU which includes: full use of all Case library facilities; all Case athletic facilities; full access to Case on-line software library and thousands of on-line journals; Case e-mail account and Picture ID.
Medical Benefits You may choose from three medical plans: The MetroHealth Employee Plan, The MetroHealth Plus Plan or the Kaiser Permanente Plan. An employee contribution is required for each plan. Dental and Vision plans are provided at no charge to the employee. Life Insurance is provided at no cost to the employee and is currently one and one- half times your base pay. Long Term Disability Insurance is optional and is available for purchase through pay-roll deduction. Workman's Compensation provides medical expense coverage for on-the-job injuries.
Retirement Program MetroHealth participates in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan. Approximately 10 % of your salary is contributed towards PERS. The hospital will contribute 14% for each employee. PERS takes the place of social security deductions. There are three choices available for you to manage your PERS funds during your employment as well as after completion of residency training.
Malpractice/Liability Insurance The hospital is self-insured and each resident is covered under the program for professional liability and indemnity. The program provides occurrence coverage for residents while acting within the scope of their duties and employment. The limit of the self-insurance program is $3 million per occurrence. MetroHealth Medical Center also purchases excess insurance that would respond should a claim exceed $3 million. This is also an occurrence form of coverage.
Safety and Security All employees are required to wear a MetroHealth Medical Center Identification Badge. The MetroHealth Police Department is a full-service police department that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Escort service is available during late evening hours. Secure, lighted parking is available on the medical center campus. The current parking rate is $13.72 per bi-weekly pay.
Financial Resources Direct Deposit of your paycheck is mandatory. You may use any bank and/or credit union of your choice for direct deposit into savings and/or checking accounts. The hospital has three ATM's on premises.
There is a credit union on campus. You may sign up for membership with The Steel Valley Employee's Credit Union. A $50.00 minimum deposit is required for membership. Benefits and services include: savings accounts, holiday and vacation clubs, direct deposits, signature loans, bill consolidation loans, new and used auto loans and credit cards.
Resident Amenities The House Staff Association is made up of the resident and fellows of MetroHealth Medical Center. Activities of the association include social hours, community service projects, hospital projects and many activities throughout the year. Residents are asked to consent to a $5.00 per bi-weekly pay deduction to cover house staff dues.
A resident lounge is located on the first floor of the Core/Towers building adjacent to the GME office. The lounge is available 24 hours a day and includes a bank of computers, TV room and quiet study/rest area.
Lab coats are provided for each resident and are laundered free of charge.
Scrubs are provided for each resident and are laundered free of charge.
An on-call room is provided adjacent to patient areas for the convenience of the resident staff. Please note that we do not provide permanent or temporary housing.
The hospital has a medical library that contains over 25,000 bound volumes and in excess of 486 current subscriptions. In addition to MedLine, MDConsult, UptoDate and other electronic references, an inter-library loan service is available.
Electronic Medical Record (EPIC Care) is utilized for all lab and imaging reports, discharge summaries, and all outpatient clinical care. Computer work stations with EPIC Care and internet access are available throughout the inpatient and outpatient clinical areas, resident's office, on call room, and resident's lounge.
All residents are provided a hospital e-mail account and remote access. Residents are required to use this e-mail account for residency and hospital related business.
All residents are provided with a city-wide pager with a range of 40 miles.
