Testing
The clinic offers a variety of allergy tests:
- Skin prick, or epicutaneous, tests, which are done by placing a drop of a solution containing an allergen on the skin
- Intradermal test, which is done by injecting a small amount of the allergen into the skin
- Skin multitest, which involves placing small samples of multiple allergens in a pattern on the patient at one time
- Drug allergy testing
- Food allergy testing
- Challenge testing to rule out drug or food allergies
- Blood tests may also be used with some patients as needed
Other tests include:
- Asthma testing, such as breathing tests (spirometry)
- Immune deficiency testing, which involves a series of blood and skin tests to monitor and evaluate a patient's health
Treatments
Our Allergy & Immunology team will work to develop a treatment plan that works with your lifestyle to manage your symptoms. Some treatments include medications and immunotherapy, or allergy shots. Although frequent allergy shots do require a time commitment from patients, they are the only specific treatment for allergies. Most medications simply treat the symptoms of an allergy, not the underlying cause.
Infusion Therapy
The clinic's infusion center offers treatment for primary immune deficiency disorders. Designed with the comfort and privacy of patients in mind, each infusion bay is equipped with comfortable recliners, individual televisions, and light control/dimmer switches.
In addition, specialists who treat anemia, osteoporosis, and Crohn's disease, as well as health concerns related to hematology, oncology (cancer), and rheumatology, may refer you to the Allergy & Immunology Clinic for infusible medications, such as Remicade or intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), or blood transfusions.
