Family Medicine Welcome from the Program Director

Leanne Chrisman, MDWelcome to the Metro Family Medicine Family!

There are three gifts, Metro Family Medicine would like to offer you during your family medicine training:

1. Family
First and foremost, we stand together as a family.  Metro has a longstanding tradition of faculty stability and collegiality, of which I have known since long before becoming Metro’s family medicine program director.  Residents have a sense of the faculty as colleagues and a stronger sense of their commitment to family medicine education!  Not only that, but we have become knitted together during times good and times hard.  This is most evident when we have to rise to the occasion when someone is sick or injured or even celebrates a new joy as in the life changing events of a wedding or new baby!

Still, you can see it in the everyday ways in which we interact together as faculty and residents and staff.  For myself, it has been gratifying to be welcomed into the fold of family, and we are hoping you can come along for the journey.

2. Superior Training
You simply cannot beat the high quality care that is provided here. Whether our strong inpatient experiences or modern, team based and efficient outpatient clinic, residents rank their training well above the national average on the ACGME Residency Survey.

In fact, MetroHealth Family Medicine Residency has been awarded the prestigious Centene Physician Summit Award for 2010. A national recognition, awarded based on achievement of HEDIS guidelines and patient satisfaction, we are honored to be recognized as premier providers of outstanding patient care in the State of Ohio for an at-risk and high needs patient population.

This translates to outstanding education for our residents who are prepared to handle the future of family medicine, whether in rural or urban or international health settings. In fact, nearly 70 percent of our graduates stay in underserved settings, most serving as teachers to the future generations of family physicians.

3. A Mission
Our patient centered medical home, team-based model is an engaging and modern look at family medicine.  Instead of simply letting the world go by, Family Medicine at Metro has embraced the future, fully incorporating modern electronic medical records and patient centered team care while still using strong communications and behavioral medicine to treat each and every patient as an individual, each and every time.

As program director and on behalf of the residents and faculty, I hope that you will look at the long traditions of Family Medicine that have inspired a functional future!  However, if you come here…expect to find an excellent mission-based training…AND a family.
